How to Change Default Searching Style from "starts with" to "contains"?

We are using Dynamics CRM 2015, on premise.  Currently when we search for items in the default search fields, the search parameter that is used is "starts with" rather than contains.  We would prefer it to be contains.  Here is an example:

Given an opportunity called, "Sell a set of cat condos to Mr. Faust".  If someone searches for the word, "cat", nothing will appear in the search results if one searches in the standard search box at the top.  If we search for "Sell a", then the opportunity appears.

Conversely, doing an advanced search, we can specify "contains" rather than "starts with".  That shows the appropriate results.

Is there a way to force the default searching behavior to use the "contains" search rather than "starts with"?

Thank you for your help!

Best Regards,

Eric

If you're referring to Quick Find (the search box at the top of a view), then you can't change this behaviour. However, you can use the * as a wildcard, e.g. *cat

If you enable "Enable full-text search for Quick find", it will always find the phrase using "contents" clause and doesn't need to use any wild card char for searching.

Settings->Administration->System Setting (under General tab Set up Quick Find)

    See this blogs.msdn.com/.../full-text-indexing-for-crm-2015-quick-finds.aspx

Thank you for the information.  However, that option is not available with the CRM version, we currently have installed.  We're not yet on 0.1 Update.  We are running 2015 On Premise - original version.  This version does have a full-text search option.

We cannot undertake a significant upgrade of our system at this time.  So perhaps in mid-Q1 we can look into this.

    Once again, thanks!
