Upgrade from AX 2012 R3 to D365 Finance and Operations - Detailed Steps

Hi All,

We are currently looking to upgrade our AX 2012 R3 implementation to D365 Finance and Operations and were going through the Microsoft documentation on the topic. However, we have been getting stuck with the initial steps itself, which talks about LCS project creation, etc, since the mentioned fields don't show up in the first place.

Is there a detailed step-by-step guide on what has to be performed, along with who can perform the underlying step? (like a tenant administrator, license manager, etc).

could you tell about which fields you are talking about? If you can name any/few that could help.

Generally, you will need to create a upgrade project in LCS. You can choose AX 2012 to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations" as the project type. Assign the technical consultant the Project Owner role (Manages the LCS project). You will need to setup an Azure DevOps linking to this LCS project.

Download and run the Upgrade Analyzer tool. It will scan your AX 2012 environment and generate a report.

Use LCS to deploy a Tier 1 (Dev/Test) environment.
Use Visual Studio and the Code Upgrade tool in LCS to migrate customizations.
Deploy your upgraded code to this environment.

After its fully upgraded, perform functional testing.
