Hello All,
I want to mass insert into the ITEM table of RMS, I would like to know if anyone has attempted this and if there is anything I need to be weary of,
The theory is to add 1 item via the front end, look at the insert into the table ITEM, then mimic that exact line over a mass query.
I will obviously backup the current database and only test with a few lines first. If anyone has advice before this is attempted please let me know? :)
Kind regards :)

Hello!
Hows your bulk upload? I run also a script to branch so they can have new items from HQ directly run from their database using sql script. My problem is supplier tab don't have data.
It can be punch thru POS and it can be use in Purchase Order only thing im missing is supplier tab i guess.
Thanks,
Chris
Hey Bruce, Fernando,
Thank you for your responses. Lol Fernando.... that really puts it into perspective. (And yes, its HQ)
Well I have just received another bulk lot, need to move fast and commit to a direction. If I do the custom script I will backup the DB and test locally. Will also check the pricing on the App you suggested.
Many thanks guys.
In a Headquarters environment? More complex than store ops - you have the ITEMDYNAMIC table to also populate; I can't see the future but I do sense a head on a platter...there are add-ons that will accomplish this for you - check the Retail Realm Import Utility - works in an HQ environment. Trust me - you will spend double the amount on Tylenol if you go this route....
Bulk insert to temp table from csv, then copy to item table, we did it....
Hey Spencerm,
Im in Headquarters environment. I think your Trace advice is the better option :D
Will do that for sure
Thank you for your response!
Are you in a Headquarters environment or just Store Ops? In Headquarters, you will also need to make corresponding entries into the ItemDynamic table to hold the information for each store. In Store Ops alone, this won't be necessary, but you'll have to manually go back and specify supplier reorder info. I believe the SupplierList table is the only other table besides Item that is updated in Store Ops when a new item is created, but I'd recommend running a trace against the database while creating an item to make sure before you make any big changes.
Hey Fernando,
I could spend the few hours, but my concern is that I am going to receive more and more bulk requests soon, so I want to script this as soon as possible.
I totally hear what you are saying and will consider it carefully :)
Much obliged
Probably not the reply you want to hear, but for 200 items, it's not worth it. Spend a couple hours defining your departments, categories and suppliers, then enter them manually, do it the right way from the start. You can probably knock this out within a few hours data entry and avoid headaches down the road due to orphaned records.
Hey Eluid,
Thank you so much for your response. Thats exactly what I needed to know :)
Will give it a shot,
Cheers for now
Basically it will not be 100% accurate since not all tables will be updated. But it will be a quick way to create bulk items.
