Cost Threshold for Parallelism

I'm trying to find the recommended setting for Cost Threshold for Parallelism, but haven't been able to find anything on Google; I've only been able to find MAXDOP, which is already set to 1.

What's the recommended setting for Cost Threshold for Parallelism for Dynamics GP?  For other OLTP servers, I've seen recommendations of 20-25.

can you provide a link or docs for this?

Dynamics (any one) has the same vague best practices.

    Hi Carl,

I am aware of the recommendation however in my experience Microsoft's published recommendations don't always match real world requirements.

    Regards,

    John,

What do you normally set as the max degree of parallelism on your SQL Servers?

    Best regards,

    Kirk

Circling back to this, here's the answer

QL Server ignores the cost threshold for parallelism value under the following conditions:

    • ...

    • The max degree of parallelism option is set to 1.

In my humble opinion, I usually get a performance base line first, and then start changing the number by steadily increasing it over time, while monitoring performance to see if performance goes up, down, or remains the same.

I would suggest monitoring the performance for at least a full week between changes.

Let me know how it goes,
