Please familiarize yourself with these technologies, there are a lot of books that you could read for example on Safari Books Online. The blogs on setting these up in relation to AX are quite outdated (2009), but you could also check them just to get a kick-start:

Hi Jeff, you'd certainly need to consider Remote Desktop Services (RDS) or Citrix for this deployment.  Is it on a WAN or are those users accessing via the internet?

If you were to try and install Rich client straight on the user's desktops in the different cities you would likely find problems, as anything over a few milliseconds between Client > AOS is really not fun for performance -  preferably <1ms in case of chatty forms.  Installing an RDS server allows you to maintain that low latency between client and server.

Do you need more information on RDS?

You could set up a Terminal Server with AX clients configured, and then remote users could establish a Virtual Private Network connection to join the network, and use Remote Desktop to connect to the Terminal Server to run AX. This is also possible via Citrix.
