International Addresses

Hello all,

Are there any companies out there which you are a part of that serves international customers and can potentially ship to anywhere in the world?

The reason I ask is as we move into AX addresses are very disciplined. The system out of the box doesn't come preloaded with every city or zip code in the world when it does address validation. This means that as new delivery addresses are entered the city isn't available. The sales rep will need to contact IT or anyone who has access to organization management.

What have some of you done in the past with address validation? Did you turn it on?

How did you research the proper information for the delivery address city or zip code and load it into AX?

I'm just looking for some general advice so any replies are appreciated.

    RE: International Addresses

    Hi Keith,

If you would like to have every City and Zipcode available, the database would have enourmous number of records which are.not used. Usually I don't activate the validation options. The zip code validation was mandatory in previous versions of AX resulting in maintaining or pre loading the options. In the Netherlands it is e.g. possible to buy a subscription to get updates. The Dutch system contains more than 640000 records. There are not many companies using them all for their addresses.

I'm aware that some countries require a City validation. In that case you have to turn it on, but it is then validating for alll countries. So I'm missing the option to validate per country.  When the validation is turned off, wrong information might be entered.

At companies where the zipcode is validated, they sometimes choose to do the setup as they have to enter a new code. Then you can setup an alert rule for someone to check data quality.

So you gave some considerations now. There are more options possible. Please verify your thoughts by asking new questions if you would like to have more specific input.

I have had companies integrate to postcode validation software - basically enter the postcode and it gives you an option of the numbers and the address is returned to AX.

I have also had companies who allow anyone to create the addresses.

Thanks Andre. I think going with alerts for new addresses is the way to go. In my company it will need to be a routine effort to impress the data quality we desire.
