How to set pricing based upon a markup instead of a discount?

Posted on by 35

We've recently moved from another ERP to BC365. All of our Items are coded with an Item Category code, and Item Discount Groups have been created (we have a lot). While the bulk of our Item Discount Groups are based upon a discount percentage from the Unit Price, we do have a number of Item Discount Groups that need to be priced from the Unit Cost and marked up a certain percentage. It appears there is no way to accomplish this. Does anyone have a suggestion here? Thanks in advance.

I agree with you there. It is not the best scenario to have the markup price as the default if that is not so widely used.

Then you should build the markup  price into a price list.

It might require some customization to make the maintenance off the price lists a bit more efficient that what you will find out of the box.

I will read up on your linked article. I don't like having the Cost+ as the 'default' pricing since any customer not covered by special pricing would get this price. Our markup costs result in a cheaper selling price than the discount method.

To achieve that you will have to create different price list covering your different price models.

So you could use the profit + marging as the standard for the item and then have price lists for the other pricing options.

Here are some info around the price lists.

Thanks for your answer. The problem is that we might sell the same product to Customer A for a discount from the Unit Price, but for Customer B it needs to be a markup from cost. The reason for this is that we have "sister" companies that might buy inventory from us, but by company policy we may only sell it for a certain percentage above our cost to them. All other customers may be sold that item for a discount off the Unit Price.

    Hi troverman

The markup price calculation is doable if you configure your items for it:

On your item card set the field Price/profit calculation to Price = cost + profit and then in the Profit field add your desired markup percent.

Then you will have a price based on unit cost + markup.

    Hope this helps you.
