I'm trying to understand how the system reserves capacity if an item can be made on 2 or more resources.
We have an item that can be produced on 2 resources - A & B. We'd like master planning to reserve capacity on resource A first and if none is available, reserve capacity on resource B.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hello, if you want to schedule without resource capabilities, you need to make sure resource A and resource B are part of the same work centre group.
Then on the route as resource requirement specify the resource group ( not the specific resource) and make sure the job scheduling is ticked as well.
Job scheduling would need to be used when scheduling planned/work orders
Sorry, I don't seem to have heard of such a way, but I found a similar post that may help you.
Hi Charlotte,
Thank you for the answer.
Unfortunately, we do not have capabilities setup for resources. The resource is a workstation that can produce a specific item (all required production/assembly operations happen at the workstation). The resource is specified in the route for the item (1 resource per route).
Is there a way I can prioritize the route that master planning considers when reserving capacity? Or a workaround you can think of?
Thank you,
Warm regards,
Mayukh
Hi mayukh_bhat,
Within a resource, you can specify the resource’s operations scheduling percentage, efficiency percentage, capabilities, capacity, resource group, and calendar.
You can also assign a priority to a capability. This means that if two resources have the same capability, the resource with the higher priority will be reserved for job scheduling.

I hope it's helpful to you.
