My server pc is taking about 20 minutes to complete startup. During that time, the POS pc cannot connect to the database, even though SQL Server is running on server pc. I have run antivirus, registry cleaner, and chkdsk. These have not fixed the problem. I have reduced the startup programs to the following: Avast antivirus, dropbox, SQL2005 Server, CDRegclean, and clocksync. All come up except clocksync. Activesync for a symbol scanner does not come up, either. The cdregclean comes up, but stops responding, and must be manually closed.
While waiting to complete the startup, many programs will not run. Example, google chrome will start, but nothing will appear on the screen. If I bring up the task manager, the application is NOT listed, but the process is.

Good luck. sounds like something is corrupted.
You didn't tell us what OS you're running, if I were you, I would turn off everything and add them back one at a time. Viista and up makes this easy to do, XP is tougher.
