Populating fields from a lookup

Hello,

I'm new to CRM 365.  I have a Case form that looks up a Contact's full name and populates the contact lookup field on the Case form.  Along with the full name, I would like the contact's address, phone, city and state values from the Contact form to populate those same fields on the Case form with the full name lookup.

Does this require field mapping?

    Hi ,

You can achieve this using Quick view form functionality , have a look below reference .

    Hi Z_Mike,

Since not everything the Case can be from the grid on Contact so mappings won't help in that case. Here's what you can do instead -

    1. Create a Real-time workflow on Case entity on create of the Case record and change of the Contact field.

    updateCaseAddress.png

    2. Add a Step to update case and populate the fields from the related Contact to the custom fields on the Case example -

    updateCaseAddress.png

This should populate the fields whenever you change the Contact. However, this won't work if you change the Address itself on the Contact record. It will continue to hold the old address.

Thank you for your quick response.  I decided to use a quick view form as I couldn't get the real time workflow working.

That was the solution I used.  Thanks for your help.

Good to know that Mike, I suggested you Real-Time workflow since you mentioned you want to populate the same fields on the Case form. :)

    Cheers!

Hi Z_Mike, could you show me what went wrong with the workflow? I will try to help with that. :)

    Hi Priyesh,

Thank you for following up on this.  I think the problem was that I selected the wrong fields for the record fields change event.  I'll take a look at the issue tomorrow at work and let you know if that was the problem.

My apologies for not responding sooner.  I created the workflow again and set my address fields to populate based on the contact.  It still doesn't populate the fields.  Besides activating the Process, do I need to do anything else?

Is the scope of your workflow is set to organization?

If still doesn't work, please share screenshot of your workflow.
