Where are the development tools for GP 2018?

For GP 2018 what are the development tools that need to be installed to be able to create class libraries and drop them into the addins folder? I have a GP 2015 project I want to upgrade to GP 2018. I installed VS Tools for GP 2018 plus Visual Studio Integration Toolkit for GP 2018 off the Winthrop Development Consultants website.  When I go to create a new project the Dynamics GP addin is not listed as an option. When I check the folders for Visual Studio there is nothing listed. Do I need to install the toolkit for GP 2015 to get them loaded and then copy them over to the VS 2018 folder?

    I think you may mean GP 2018 folder at the end of your post?

    What version of Visual Studio are you using? If you are using VS2017 then you will have to use the Visual Studio Extension that can be found in the VS Extensions, search for Dynamics GP. That version of Visual Studio is not yet officially supported.

    Once extension is loaded you should find the GP stuff under new items menu in Visual Studio as expected.

    Otherwise I think you have to go back to Visual Studio 2015 - but no one wants to do that really. .

    Sounds like you are almost there already with what you have done.

    I have installed VS Community 2017. Where do I find VS Extensions for GP? I am searching through hundreds of pages of VS extensions and I found Dynamics 365 but not Dynamics GP. Is this something I will find under Programs and Features and choosing the change option?

    Isn't this a bit dangerous when updates are automatically applied the next time you start VS? This will start having developers use computers not connected to the internet. I would not want updates applied to my code automatically. Boy, talk about a moving target. This would bring a whole new meaning to the phrases "It worked yesterday" and "I did not change anything". How do you have any QA/QC with this going on? Is there any way to disable the automatic updates?

    Everything is now moving much quicker than I've ever known it before - how many versions of .NET have we had just recently, how many threats/vulnerabilities are discovered everyday in the libraries we use.  Enterprise operating systems are getting very, very regular updates applied automatically these days as you can't risk not doing so and this constantly moving platforms is moving all the way down to us developers too.

    My Visual Studio updates all the time it feels, we were talking in the office today about how some things get fixed in our code, the next min we find it was a bug and VS is fixed so we end up flip flopping the solutions. However we are all moving at a higher velocity than ever before so I'm just going with it.

    Its just a new world and its something you have to learn to embrace.

    I hear you Tim but it is a very frightening thought that you could not make changes to your code but it behaves differently from one day to the next. I come from the days of tight controlled code. I never cared for .Net with its layer after layer after layer. The developer is too far away from the data. Are we really making progress? A sturdy house built on a poor foundation will still collapse!

    On the other hand it is nice that the termite exterminators keep checking and treating the foundations for us while we are out at work so we don't have to worry too much about the house falling down....

    Yes, but termites are not evolving as quickly as software development environments. All things are relative and the only constant in nature is change. We simply have to grin and bear it! We have to work with what we have. Thanks to people like you who provide helpful information in our changing world. It is very much appreciated.
