How to print order documents before starting cluster picking

We are a direct-to-consumer retailer, and working on upgrading from R2 to R3.  We want to take advantage of the mobile warehouse device portal.  Our business process for picking sales orders is to collect printed order documents in batches (of 15) and then pick each batch to a cart with 15 bins.  (One printed order document is placed in each bin.)  The cart then goes to one of the packing stations, where the packer packs one order at a time, with each bin on the cart containing all the items to ship for one order.  The printed order document goes in the box and serves as an order summary for the customer.

The Cluster Picking feature could work well for us, except I need help figuring out how to print order documents in batches.  It isn't required to print the orders in groups of 15, but we do need some indication in AX to know the order has been printed so that it isn't printed again (and end up picking more than once).

I looked at Wave Picking, and that could work well for printing in batches, since we would "process" the wave just before printing it.  Then we would print the wave picking list (which would be modified to serve as an order summary).  The big problem with wave picking is that it doesn't tell the picker which position on the cart to place the items they are picking.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the "best of both worlds"?  (The pick-to-cart-position feature of cluster picking, with the "batch" order document printing of wave picking.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, what you referring to won't work well for printing order documents.

I got some advice from elsewhere that suggested using cluster picking with waves, so I'm working on testing that idea and will post an update here if it works.

    Hi Daniel,

Have you seen the new feature Wave label printing https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/supply-chain/warehousing/configure-wave-label-printing ?

    Thanks,

    Alina
