Hiding Inventory Items

Is there a way to hide certain inventory items within GP.  The goal here is to allow the buyers and production people to get a new item setup, on order, with various other processes started or completed, before the sales staff is allowed to see that we have the item.  I didn't think there was a good way to accomplish this, but thought I would ask.

    RE: Hiding Inventory Items

No, there is no way actually to hide or prevent transactions on specific item according to the required scenario. In very similar cases, I have always considered creating virtual sites in Inventory in order to handle the internal processes. A very common example is represented with the Quality checks which need to be applied by the quality department on goods manufactured before sales orders can be places, in such an example, configuring a quality site in Dynamics GP as a "Virtual Site" can get things on track. In this essence, the sales people are to place their sales orders always on the FG site not the "Quality Site"

    See the representation below:

    RE: Hiding Inventory Items

I will paraphrase Frank on this one and say with code, all things are possible.  Since you have a specific concern, which is Sales staff selling an item before it is approved for sale, you could modify the sales transaction entry window so items, which meet this criteria could not be added to a Sales Order successfully.  Perhaps they could still be added on quotes if the target release date were within a certain period, etc.

Both Mahmoud's and Harry's options are great and each have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Mahmoud's, No customization needed, and in general it's a great process to use for other situations as well as this one, downside is technically the inventory can still be sold.

Harry's way, modifying the window with a bit of VBA code would guarantee that the items couldn't be sold, the downside being you need to have the code written.

    Both are great options!

customization is the option of my choice,  I can not risk for item get sold which are not allowed to staff before certain process. : )
