Which Data Source to Extend for Custom Fields in Customer Address Form?

I am currently working on a form customization requirement where two custom fields (Field1 and Field2) need to be added to the Customer Details form, specifically on the Address tab like Field1 and Field2.

As the Address tab uses the LogisticsPostalAddressGrid form part, I reviewed its underlying data source and found that it is based on the DirPartyPostalAddressView. Upon further inspection, this view contains multiple data sources,  data source details give below:

My requirement is to determine the correct data source on which these custom fields should be added. I have tested adding the fields to both DirPartyLocation and LogisticsPostalAddress, and both approaches appear to work functionally. However, I am unsure about the long-term impact and best practice implications of adding custom fields to either of these data sources.

Could someone please advise which data source is the recommended and correct location for adding custom fields in this scenario, in order to avoid potential issues in the future?

Thanks

Which table to add custom fields depends on the functional requirements of your customization. E.g. if you need extra information about customers you should add fields to the customer table. If you need extra information about the address of customers, it should be added to the address table. My question is, what are your requirements? You mentioned field1 and field2 but what are the requirements?

These two custom fields are address-specific, meaning that each address record will have its own value for these fields. Therefore, adding them at the customer level is not appropriate, as the fields are intended to be maintained per address. While adding the fields to the Address tab, I observed that the form is backed by multiple data sources, specifically DirPartyLocation and LogisticsPostalAddress. This has led to some confusion regarding the correct data source for adding address-related custom fields.

Could you please advise which data source—DirPartyLocation or LogisticsPostalAddress—is the recommended and correct one to extend for address-specific custom fields?

    Thank you for your guidance.

Each of the tables (LogisticsPostalAddress, LogisticsLocation, DirPartyLocation) has a different purpose and which one is the most appropriate for your fields depends on the purpose and usage of your fields. Your current definition of the fields ("related to addresses") is too vague to allow the decision, but I guess you're interested in LogisticsPostalAddress.

You keep talking about customer addresses, but modifying the these tables would impact all addresses in the system, e.g. vendor addresses, employee addresses, warehouse addresses and so on. Are you sure you want that?
