How to import data into new Multi Select Option Set field

We are trying to work out how to import data from an excel file into the new multi select option set field.  We have tried using a ; separated string, but this adds unique values for each of the lines  (example: value1; value2  results in a new options set value of "value1; value2").

How can we import data into this new field type?

Thanks

Simon

We have tried to import Multi Select Option Set field with XLSX file on Account entity.

In order to import records with multi-select option set field we would need to pass the option set labels with semicolon “;” separator.

Below is the account records that we tried to import in Dynamics 365 V 9.0 environment.

    Thanks!

Hi Simon: Did you ever figure out a way to import data into a multi select option set field? I tried using the semi-colon to separate and as you say it creates another option value, which is not desirable. Please let me know your findings. Kindly - Stacey

Hi Simon: After posting a message to you the other day I continued to play around and found a way to accomplish importing the values for multi-select option sets. First import your records without the column(s) that contain multi select option values. Then after records have been successfully imported, export them and contain the column(s) which would hold multi-select option values. Fill in the values as you have stated  (example: value1; value 2; value 3). Reimport and the values appear as expected.

    Hi Stacey,

I think we came to the same conclusion - that you had to export for reimport, then utilise semi colon seperated values in the field to reimport the data.

Hi Simon: An unusual way to get the desired result, but glad that we both were able to find a resolution!

    Hi Stacey,

Have you ever tried importing data from excel with multi select values, without typing the values by yourself?

I'm trying to build an excel file holding my contacts, so when I fill in a new record, the multi select field would hold the list of values in a drop down list excel field.

For example if I have 3 options for colors under my dynamics contact entity, I would like to see those options inside the excel file under the Color field.

    Appreciate your help,

    Shir

Hey guys, find this post as I was looking for the same solution. Having thousands of records with 5 rows each to be merged into one cell. Does not work really.

For example, I have record A who has data in column A, D and E then record b who has data in column B only and record C who has data in column A, B, C, D and E.

I tried to configure the excel file so data is merge into on cell with a semi column in between the data.

Then tried to upload the excel file and it does not work.

Any suggestions on how to bulk update a multi select field? Cheers
