How we can put limit on the usage of item in sales or purchase transactions?

There a several possible answers but I suppose the first question is why do you want to restrict sales, and if you accept the sale then mrp will plan what i needed to buy to satisfy the sales.
How is this expected to work in practice e.g. if I need 100 and the order limit is 60, then can I still raise two orders for 50 each?
The first answer is mrp policy, and also modifying parameters like default order quantity, and min max settings
Another approach is a quantity based workflow condition to approve the order.
