Phys. Inventory Journal - Calculate Inventory takes too long (NAV 2016)

Posted on by 10

Every time we try to get an inventory list, it takes hours until NAV has all data exported.

It seems like Navision goes through the entire Inventory journal table to calculate the current inventory levels and really takes long.

What makes no sense, even when we choose only one bin code in which are for example only materials for "coffe", NAV is checking all parts (coffes, teas, cups, sugar). (these are dummy examples)
It is not important which bin code you try to filter, it is starting from the beginning with items, although we never had certain items on this bin code.

I have like 6 location, each location with 6 bins. And for each bin no matter the size of the bin it takes me the same time causte it is processing all the items on all of inventory even tho I filter only the certain bin.
The only fast calculation happens when i filter an item ... but I need to do inventory of the bins separately now the whole inventory.

This has not happened before to us. 2019, 2020 inventory calculation was fast, 2021 somewhat slower but this year it takes hours just to calculate one bin.

One answer I got is that this is a standard procedure of how navision works and it will always go through whole inventory even tho i have only one bin filtered , or locaation nevermind.
Is it due to a larger data? Connection?Hardware? Is there a quicker way to do it? Thanks

For some situations, you can develop your own custom report that would be more rapid, e.g. www.dynamicsuser.net/.../54400

You can also look at this from a performance perspective - database optimization (e.g., use SQL Profiler to see if there are db locks); usually it is not a hardware issue but you can check how the database is allocated via hard drives. Test the same process on an independent copy of the database without users inside.

Check also if the years are closed properly, and verify if there are any "unusual" postings were done by the users.

Hi, As far as I know, the early NAV2016 does have performance problems, you can try to upgrade to the latest CU, and see if the problem still exists.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.
