Back & Restore

Hi,

Looking for advice please. We did a back up of one of our Sandbox instances earlier. The did a Minimal Copy from our Production instance to the Sandbox. We then restored the back up to Sandbox that we did before the copy. However, it seems that the restore has restored the Sandbox instance back to what it was before we did the Minimal Copy. I was of the understanding that the restore would only restore data. I'm sure we did this before and it worked as I thought.

Can anyone advise please? we're on Dynamics 365 v8.2 online.

Thanks,

Agnes

    Full Copy

Copy the full application database from the source to the target.  This make an exact copy of the source instance, including all application data, users, customizations, etc.  You’ll need to make sure you have enough available storage space to copy before you copy the instance.

    Minimal Copy

Copy only the customizations, core configuration data, and users from the source to the target.  This is primarily useful for development scenarios when the full production database is not needed.  You will need to import your custom configuration and sample data to complete the process.

    Hi Agens ,

Restored means completely  restored your instance and return to earlier instance, it should remove what ever you did after backed up. This is expected behavior .

you can refer below reference -

    docs.microsoft.com/.../request-point-in-time-restore

    Hi Agnes,

It is my understanding that the minimal copy of an instance will take the configurations but not the data. If you want the data you have to do a full copy of the production but that will overwrite the instance that you are restoring to.

You can reference this link to understand the differences between the two to help: docs.microsoft.com/.../copy-instance
