WMS vs WMS Advanced for Transportation Management.

Hello,

When our company first installed Dynamics AX 2012 R3 we only implemented WMS I as it was determined that the Advanced WMS for Transportation Management was not in our scope. We have come to realize now though that many of the features of the Advanced WMS module would be indeed beneficial to our organization. My question is, if we uninstall WMS I to use WMS Advanced instead will we be sacrificing any of WMS I's options, or will we only be seeing more options with the advanced version?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,

J-Knopp

What exactly do you mean with WMS I? For AX, this it the basic functionality needed to use or the legacy advanced warehouse (aka WMS II) or the new warehouse management and transportation management.

Do you mean you had implemented sites and warehouses only, and now want to use additional features or did you implement the legacy advanced warehouse and now wants to use the new warehouse and transportation management?

If you did not use the correct storage dimension groups (WMS enabled), you cannot convert the current running company. Then possibly you need to create a new company as of a certain date.

You cannot just install and reinstall. All of your items need to have been setup with elements of WMS to allow this to happen, the dimension groups, the warehouses etc. that need to be setup. If items and warehouses are not setup with WMS in mind they will need to be recreated. There is a huge impact on processing and you need to consider this a project, look at all of the requirements and reassess the impact on all of your business processes.

WMSI functionality will not be lost, it will be replaced in many places by other functionality.

    Hi,

    Go here:

    blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/.../introducing-the-new-warehouse-management-and-transportation-management-modules-in-dynamics-ax-2012-r3

and look for the link 'Presentations, videos and instructor-led labs from Microsoft Dynamics AX Technical Conference 2015'. There, you will find a video for 'WMSII to new Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 warehouse management (BSAX22)', which describes how you can change the setup of your Items to support Advanced Warehousing.
