Hi Team,

I did find many performance monitoring tools on Dynamics Ax and Sql server.

Can you please let me know if any of these add over head or delay to the application.

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Trace Parser
DynamicsPerf
SqlDataCollector and ActivityMonitor
SQlProfiler

Any suggestions on which tool to be used for monitoring the performance.

    Hi Anil,

SQL tools aren't really impacting the performance and do contain other data compared to DynamicsPerf and the Trace Parser. The SQL tools can provide insight on e.g. missing indexes.

DynamicsPerf is collecting other and more generic data compared to the Trace Parser which will collect data on certain processes in detail.

I would suggest to read available documentation and decide which of these you want to use.

    Hi Anil,

As Andre suggested every tool is designed with specific purpose and provides discrete information based on requirement. I feel we can help you better if you can let us know what exactly you are trying to achieve.

    Thanks,

SQL Profiler and tools which can parse and log all query execution should be used extremely carefully, since that adds considerable overhead. That is only used for short period of time when you want to capture and troubleshoot a concrete issue, similarly to collecting an AX Trace on the server.

DynamicsPerf, System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), and similar tools are not adding any considerable overhead, since they are using DMVs and performance counters from the applications which do not take away too much resources and do not directly interact with your source system as such.

We are using DynamicsPerf, SCOM, and some home-brew SQL jobs for proactive and post-event monitoring.

SQL Profiler and Trace Parser only comes out if we do have a specific problem to check.

    Thanks for the valuable inputs.

    Appreciate your help.

Can you share any Demo videos on DynamicsPerf and SCOM. I could not find any videos for these tools. Also if possible usefull links

It is not typical to find videos. Help comes in form of documentation, and blog posts which you could find using a search engine with the keyword combination of AX.

    Hi ,

I did go through the links and it has very good information. currently I do not have any Dynamics Application setup. so thought of checking for Demo Videos on DynamicsPerf tool.

Please share if we have any videos from Microsoft.
