Is it possible to make a Credit Memo pick up the G/L account numbers that are set up for a customer in Cards>Sales>Customer??

Thank you.

Yes, but it defaults to the Sales Account set in the Customer Card.  Do you want it to go to a different account?

I want to go to the Sales Account set up in Customer Cards.  Right now it defaults to what is set up under Tools>set up>posting accounts>sales.

    Thank you.

    Bradley,

Just to make sure - you're going to Transactions | Sales | Transaction Entry and selecting Credit Memo?  And are looking at the CRMEMO type distribution?

If so, that defaults from the "Credit Memos" account set up for the company (GP | Tools | Setup | Posting | Posting Accounts | select Sales under Display).  There is no way to default the credit memo account per customer in out-of-the-box GP.  If you're using SOP (Sales Order Processing), you might want to consider using the Return type of transaction there, which will allow you much greater control over the GL distributions.

Victoria, you're right, there is no way to set the Credit Memo default account at the Customer Card, but it does default to the Sales Account in the Customer Card, which I think is what Bradley is looking for.

    Hi Frank,

Not in my testing.  :-)  If you're testing with the Fabrikam company, that is defaulted to have 000-4110-01 as the Credit Memos account and that also happens to be the Sales account for Aaron Fitz.  If that is the customer you're using for your testing - this may make it look like the Sales account is being used.  Can you try deleting the Credit Memos account under the Posting Accounts Setup and see what happens?  (I am using GP 2010 SP 2, but I do not believe anything about this particular behavior has changed in a long time.)

Thanks for your help.  Yes, there is not a way to make a>>> Transactions | Sales | Transaction Entry and selecting Credit Memo >  default to the Sales Account number set up for a particular customer.

I have deleted the account number under Posting Accounts Setup so that we should receive either a prompt for an account number or an error message if we have to recored another Credit Memo.  We don't use Credit Memo's very often, just for "oddball" credits to a customer (if needed).

Sorry - my bad - I forgot to change the Type to Credit Memo when I tested the transaction - duh.

I should have known better than to disagree with Victoria :)

Hi - I am experiencing the same issue with credit memos being brought in through e-connect then auto posted via post master. The credit memos get posted with the Sales account set-up in Posting settings as mentioned above, which for this customer does not match the Sales account. What are my options in this case? Would it be best to set-up an RMDistribution in e-connect or is there another way through GP directly? Thanks in advance.

"there is not a way to make a>>> Transactions | Sales | Transaction Entry and selecting Credit Memo >  default to the Sales Account number set up for a particular customer." Better you can create custom credit memo account using the eConnect schema RMDistribution.

Note: If you use the eConnect schema RMDistribution for creating custom distribution account with credit memo, you need to pass the value CREATEDIST = 0 (Auto create distribution: 0 = manual; 1 = Automatic) for the receivable transaction creation schema taRMTransaction.

    Hope this helps!!!
