RMS - what is the future of this product?

I have been given rather conflicting answers by everybody I have asked this question to including Microsoft. What is the OFFICIAL statement of direction for this retail POS solution? Does anybody have the OFFICIAL answer?

Microsoft hasn't released a statement of direction since the end of 2011. Last thing I heard was RMS was being replaced by AX for Retail, but that was sometime ago.

Jumping in on this thread, because I would also like to know. I lost my RMS "partner" a few years ago, so I am out of the loop on RMS news!

RMS has been extended till 7/2021. Microsoft is working on its replacement with an expected release of mid 2015.

Well three years is a long time to not have a updated vision for the future. Really need to start to put emphasis on the product please . I like it for the most part but change for the good is nice. Updates are nice.

There are many RMS partners still out there, My suggestion would be to find one through Microsoft or one of the many online services provided by Microsoft that list RMS partners or call me. There are big things going on right now with RMS Next Generation both on the single store front and the multi store front. I have just recently reviewed both the plans for the next multistore solution as well as seeing the demo for the next multistore solution slated for release in April 2015.

Find a partner now that stays up on these things.....

I stumbled across this guide to upgrading from RMS to AX on Technet, the article is dated October 6, 2014.

This is the closest I've seen to a Statement of Direction on the matter.

"Retail essentials provides a data import feature that is optimized to import data from Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System (RMS). RMS is a retail system from Microsoft that is a precursor to Retail essentials. "

Hi Dave,

RMS will be supported for another 7 years.However,the next version called RMSnextgen has already been released Dec 2014/jan 2015. It is also called Retail essentials.It is basically the retail module of AX .It is pretty much AX for Retail.Microsoft partners are only just getting training on this.
