Credit management hold check using "Sales total" (original order amount) instead of "Estimated amount" (updated order amount)

We currently are using Credit Management in F&O to put Sales Orders in Credit hold when they exceed the credit limit for a given Customer. However, if a Sales Order amount is revised (usually to bring the order under the credit limit), F&O continues to "look" at the "Sales total" field amount and thus put's the order on hold instead of using the updated amount (i.e. "Estimated amount" field). Is there a parameter or setting that changes which amount the credit hold check would use? Or is this something our internal developer would have to change in the code (which is very much not ideal for various reasons)?
