Change Date Format in Word Reports

(1) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 46
Hello,

I have a custom report layout for a word report and I'm wanting to change the format of a date field. I'm on the Sales-Shipment report, but any report will do. The word file has fields that look like this:

When I run the report, it looks like this, dynamically updating the date and order no.'s accordingly:

However, I want to change the /September 22, 2023/ format to be /9/22/2023/ and can't figure out how. Surely Microsoft would enable a simple way to do this, but so far all my searching and asking has come up empty. Some solutions exist that require a developer and AL, but something as simple as a date format should be easily accessible to a common user. I've seen a few other posts similar to this and none of those solutions work (maybe they used to, but not anymore). A few examples of solutions that do NOT work now:

Any solution that works and only requires Word would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jared

Hi, I think you can try the following two ways.
    1. Try to modify the Format Region of the report

    2. Don't display it in date format, format it as text in your code first.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

@ZHU  Thank you for your response, but I'm looking for a solution that does not require a developer or coding in AL. Is there a place I can do this within BC or within the Word report, without having to learn AL?

If so, how do I modify the Format Region? In the link you provided, I see that it would be "<Closing><Month,2>/<Day,2>/<Year>" but I'm not sure where I would make this adjustment. Where is the Format Region within BC?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jared M,
If you are looking for a solution that does not require development, then I don't see the place where you can change your date format. What you can do is update the region. For example, if you update your region in BC settings, your date format will also be updated...

I'm not seeing where you can alter the format of your dates if you're searching for a non-developer answer. You have the option to update the area.

    Hi,

Using report extension, you can add date field in your report dataset with the formatting as per your requirement.
Once field added in dataset you can use it in word layout.
