3Pl integration warehouse locations

Hi!

We are working on an integration with our new 3pl partner - This partner is using "locations" within their warehouse to facilitate allocating stock for various purposes.  These are not all physical locations but rather locations within their WMS.  This could for example be a location called EXPORT for product specifically for export or DAMAGED for damaged goods etc.

My question is what is a best practice within business central on where to handle this information -  should these locations within the 3pl location be bins?  And what is the best practice for transferring from one internal location to another?  We will want the transfer information to be sent to the 3pl partner via the integration we will have with them.

Thanks for your help!

Joe

With sales orders do you want users selecting a location based on stock levels? If yes then mirror what they have and use transfer orders in your integration.

Or should it just be a single location as 3PL? Bins would make more sense here. An item reclassification or physical inventory order could be the signal to the 3PL within the integration

Thankfully, we don’t have such issues with the company we’re working for now. We decided we needed a 3rd party logistics to help a year ago, and our cooperation grew more and more productive since that moment.  We work with ecommercefulfilment.com because it would be too expensive to create our logistics and delivery system. That cooperation with this company brings us only benefits that we transform into money by giving more attention to the product itself and the processes that depend on us directly. It is what a 3rd party logistics company are needed for – to save you time for other tasks.

    Hi,

No its not about tracking the value it's about notifying the 3pl warehouse's WMS that we would like to move locations on a product and specific batch number from the default location (standard) to a chosen location.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Its depend on How you wanted to see inventory and valuation.

    1. if you wanted to track valuation separate between Export and Damaged than treat as a two location and link inventory account with location.

    2. at item level if you wanted to track stock separate for Export and Damage. with the use of location filter you can see inventory  for export and damage but  if you keep Bin that at item level it is not possible until use dimension for Export or Damage.
