SQL Table for users

Our company is fairly new to the dynamics environment and we are fighting with Licenses vows. I was hoping there was a table in SQL which holds the total amount of active users in the system per hour. Any information regarding tracking this information is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

    RE: SQL Table for users

    Hi,

There is no table that holds the number of active users in the system per hour. When you say 'system' do you mean you want to know how many users are signed on to GP? When you say 'total amount of active users', do you mean just the highest number of users signed in to dynamics each hour? What do you mean by 'active'. While GP doesn't have this functionality, SQL itself has a lot of ways to track things like this. We need to know exactly the question you are trying to answer in order to know what question SQL needs to answer.

More details please. Also, if just generally you could tell us what problem you are trying to solve we could better determine if something has already been developed that does what you need.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

As Leslie said, there is nothing that stores what you're asking for. However, you could create your own SQL code/table to track this. I have a view on my blog that will show you the current user activity, including whether or not the user has any resources locked:

You could use this as a start to create a stored procedure that runs every hour and populates a new table with the user count(s) you need.

Leslie thank you for your response. To elaborate we are trying to track how many users are in GP hour to hour because we seem to be hitting our license limit but we are not sure. By system I am referring to the GP system and yes by total active users I am referring to the highest amount of users signed in dynamics each hour. If it is a license issue we would like to make a an argument to increase our full license count however if it's something else we would like to find that out as well. I hope this give a little more insight to the question from earlier. Thank you once again.

If what you want is an accounting ever time you hit your maximum user count one thing you could try is to set is a up a job the checks the current count versus the maximum. Then ever time it gets reached, have the job send an email to yourself. After a few days you should have a pretty good idea if it is time to order a few more licenses. I believe a simple Business Alert in GP can do this.

You could also turn on activity tracking to track successful log-ins and log-outs.  That could add to the information you are after as that will give you time stamps of what has happened.
