open dynamic url through outlook?

CRM2011/OnPrem w/Outlook

I have a client who asked me to build them a workflow that will send an email to the recipient of a task when one is assigned to them. This email was to have a direct link to the task in CRM.

I was able to add the dynamic url to the email, but it attempts to go through the web interface (which requires login); before I tell her that what she wants is not possible, I wanted to run it by you lot. Has anyone figured out a way to do this?

    Hi,

    Unfortunately, I've not found any way of doing this due to the way in which outlook opens windows in a special container window. The links will always be interpreted by the email client as a standard http link. If you made sure that the email was tracked and set regarding the record you want to open, you could open the regarding object via outlook.

    Actually, that does help a lot. Thanks Scott!

    In a related question, my developer created a ribbon button that fires a dialog I built for a submittal process. This works flawlessly in the web interface, but requires a login when a user fires it through the outlook client. I know there has to be a way around this because I can fire the dialog through the normal 'start dialog' process without issue.
