In the past someone thought it was smart to create many warehouses. Now I am optimizing and don't want to use some off the warehouses anymore.

I thought it would be easy to block a warehouse for all transactions (checkbox in warehouse setup), but I cannot find it.

Is there a way to block a warehouse for all transactions without customisation (IT department don't like that).

Hi Satish,

I'm afraid what you sugest is the best option.

But I still find it hard to accept that it is not simply possible to mark a warehouse as "Obselete", it still feels it should be a basic option. But thats my problem :-)

Hi Peter,

You can try renaming warehouse to something that would inform users that warehouse is not to be used or something they don't know what it is for e.g. ZZZ. Underneath the warehouse, you can have all locations blocked as well. These are all work around, there doesn't exist a simple configuration to help avoid using a particular warehouse. Also rename the warehouse name as well to something like "Do Not use". These workarounds are not gurranteed to prevent users to use the warehouse, but guidance to not use it.

Hi Sourav and Ludwig,

I did see the two links before I made this ticket. I think they are about blocking onhand inventory in a warehouse (so by example a "sales order can't use it"). That is not what I'm looking for.

I want to close the warehouse for all transactions so:
- When creating a PO it is not posible to choose the warehouse and order Items for it.
- When doing inventory adjustment it is not posible to create onhand inventory for the Warehouse
- When creating a SO it is not posible to choose the warehouse and create a "need" for the item in the warehouse
- etc.

Regarding the solution to use "Stop/Block" in Default- or SiteSpecificOrderSetings, this wil not work for us:
- Editing all Items is no problem we have tools to do this in Bulk
- But we have more than one warehouse on a Site (Say site A warehouse 01, 02 and 03).
* When I use Default order settings --> I block the whole Site
* When I use SiteSpecOrderSet and make a line "A-01 --> Stop". I can not create a line A-02 (default warehouse
for Site A), because for every Site only one line is allowd in SiteSpecOrderSet.

I still hope there is a "out off the box solution", I think there are more organisations with obsolete warehouses, who want to prevent users from accedentily making transaction to (or from) the warehouse.

I planned to close all transactions before closing the warehouse

Hi PeterHs,

The default order settings that Sourav Dam mentioned might be the safest option. However, enabling the blocked check box requires going through your items one by one. Maybe you have a developer you can create a job for you to accelerate this task.

As Ludwig mentioned; if you have any transactions pending with the warehouse, then you have to decide what to do with those transactions first.

Also; another way to block the warehouse from posting item related transactions is to set the Blocked check box enabled in item master. Bur for that, you may need to set the warehouse block for every individual item.

Go to Default order settings available in the "Released products" form and set the warehouse block for purchasing, sales and inventory. But again; as I mentioned; this is item specific blocking.
