Environment: GP 2013 Canada Payroll

We are implementing Canada Payroll internally and are getting the error "EI paycode on employer has an invalid setup in paycode file". We have the Employer EI Factor and EI paycode setup properly but cant figure out the reason for this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Now that you explain it - it makes complete sense.  The Furture Identificaiton has been / still is / a point of contention for some clients that skip over it without knowing better.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

    Hello,

Finally got this one resolved. Customer has both HR and Canadian payroll installed.

We believe that when the EI paycode was initially set up, the Further Identification flag was set to 'N/A' instead of 'EI'.  We think that this was the cause of the initial error.  We opened the Deduction Paycode for EI and tried to reset the Further Identification to EI, but got an error message saying that  'There is an existing Human Resources Integration for this code.  The further identification method you have selected is not applicable'.

We reviewed the 'Incomplete' Paycode setups as they displayed in CPY80030 and deleted the record for the EI paycode.

We were then able to change the Further Identification on the EI paycode to read 'EI' and were able to continue.

    So a two-pronged error condition:

    1) the EI paycode was not set with the Further Identification of 'EI'

    2) the Synchronization between Canadian Payroll and Human Resources would not let the Further Identification be changed.

    Thanks

Jerry, did you get this resolved?

If not can you post the screen shots.

If you did, can you reply and let us know what you had to do.

This does help the community resolve issues sooner.

  • RE: EI paycode on employer has an invalid setup in paycode file

Jerry, not sure if this was resolved as no one posted after the screen shots late last summer.

May we request you prepare screen shot of the EI Deduction Code and of the Employer ID in the Setup.

    Hope we can help.

Thanks Bill. Im attaching screenshots of both the setups.

Naga, I tried your query but it resulted in invalid columns. Our  DB Version is 12.00.1538.

Ok lets try this in the backend. Please check if the below query (for Company database) returns any records for you. I still believe there is a chance that one of the notes I mentioned missed for an  Employee - Pay code combination (Not just the Paycode setup) and that is causing this issue. The below query will list out

    SELECT *  FROM CPY10010 WHERE PFurtherIdentification <> 14 /*Deduction*/  OR PPaycodeReference <> 1 OR PSpecialPensionType <> 1 OR PPayrollCodeType <> 3 WHERE PEICode = '<Enter your Paycode which is causing the issue>'

If the above query returns any records you may need to check for those employee-paycode combination at cards level and update it accordingly.

  • RE: EI paycode on employer has an invalid setup in paycode file

Might help to have a screen shot of the problem.  There are two places in Canadian Payroll that you have to enter the EI information.  One is at the employee paycode (deduction) card - that is what is noted above.  The other area that has to be set up is on the Employer Number Setup - Canada screen.

This is found under the System >> Employer - there are a couple of lines that deal with the Employer side of the EI charge. Note that if you do not have a reduced rate from the CRA, you would enter 1.4 in the EI Factor, then you would select the EI Paycode you created in the Cards >> Deduction Paycode screen.

Maybe this helps.  Let me know.

Your paycode setup should satisfy the below conditions to avoid the warning.

    1. Paycode type should be of Deduction type.

    2. Paycode reference should be N/A to the Paycode

    3. Special Pension type should be N/A to the Paycode.

    4. Further Identication should be EI

    Hope this helps.
