When designing a page from the web client. How is the object id for the page extension selected

When designing a page from the web client, you select name and puplisher, and saves it.

Then you can see the page design as an extension, which you can download. Then you can see which object id is given. But how is the object id selected?

I have the same question (0)

It starts from the free range (like AL:Go! default project). It's not a best practice using this designer honestly, it's not controlled and remember that extensions created using Designer are removed when the sandbox environment is updated or relocated.

    Hello,

Good question. I think it just begins with ID 50000, then picks the next available ID. Note that this way of designing is kind of only a convenient design tool that you do on a sandbox, and then you will need to move it into production from there: docs.microsoft.com/.../devenv-inclient-designer.

During this process you can of course change the IDs.

    I hope this makes sense?

    Thank you Stefano,

To be sure I understand you :)

So it takes the first available id in the free range? I.e. I made an app from Visual Studio using page extension objects 50000 to 50010. Then a user designs a page, which will be given 50011. And when I will create an new page extension to my app I can't use 50011, but have to choose another.

But you think best practice is to disable the possibility for the user to design. And maybe it will be removed in the future by Microsoft ?

Yes, you can have conflicts. No plans on removing, but it's a tool that you should handle carefully, like for example:

    - design on sandbox

    - export the generated extension

    - checks the IDs

    - import the revised in production.

it's also recommended not having too much extensions generated by page designer. It's much better to consolidate their modifications to pages into a single extension.
