Cannot install a patch for Management Reporter?

(0) ShareShare

Sigh.....here's another issue with Management Reporter.

I cannot install a blame patch for it.  I get a stupid error message saying "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service....".

When I'm dead and buried, my headstone had better read, "He tried as hard as he could but could never find a stable career path because the software that he worked so hard to support and evangelize could not install."

I'm well past frustrated, here!

John

When you say patch, are you referring to a CU?  I can't say I've ever run in to that message before and I've done hundreds of CU updates for MR.  Is there anything more intuitive in the Windows Event Viewer that could point us in the right direction?

It's the hotfix for CU13, labeled 3682838.  Windows Event Viewer is not showing one blame thing.

The only other input I have is make sure you are trying to install the right msp file for the version of windows you are running.  For example, if it's a 64 bit server, make sure to use the x64.msp file.  I just tried it by clicking on the wrong one and I get the exact message you got "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service".

Hopefully someone else can think of something if that's not it.

I tried both x64 and x86 and got the same error.

Sigh....again, I'm going to be contacting the undertaker soon to get that headstone ready.

Something else I thought of, are you trying to do this on a server where the Config Console is on or where just the Report Designer is on?  Some of the hotfixes out there are ONLY for the Config Console (server components) and don't need to be ran for the client.

The app server that I'm trying this on has both the Config Console and the Report Designer.

It's a conspiracy against me.  I should never have gone into business.  Journalism and teaching history would have been a more suitable career path, instead of one that is going to put me into an early grave.

    Hello John,

    Stick with us!

We usually see this error when a more recent version of MR is already installed on the server.

The version for that hotfix 2.12.13002.1, please check the current MR version and make sure it is not the same, as the only more recent version is CU 14.

Other than that, it may be quicker to just skip directly to CU 14, as it may be that your system is having an issue with the Hotfix.

If none of the above works, I would recommend uninstalling the MR components, then trying a clean CU 14 install.

My apologies that you are running into these issues, hopefully we can get you upgraded

Please let me know if you have any additional questions on this.

Thanks, Justin, for telling me to stick with you!  I'm going through the worst situation in my life.  For someone to tell me something so kind like that is exactly what I needed!  :)
