Upgrade Dynamics 10 on SQL 2008 --> Dynamics 2018 on SQL 2017

Hello,

We are here:  SBS 2008 server running SQL 2008 (Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (SP2) - 10.0.4000.0 (X64) ) on Dynamics 2010 with last service pack: KB3023145

We are going here: Server 2019 running SQL 2017 and Dynamics 2018 R2

I have our 2019 server setup with SQL 2017 installed.  We were told we need an intermediate machine running SQL 2015 to first upgrade Dynamics 2010 to Dynamics 2015 using SQL 2015.

I have a second license for Server 2012 available for virtual, so I can setup a 2012 Server as intermediate, but when I go to our SQL downloads, there is no SQL 2015, only 2014 Standard SP3 and then SQL 2016 Standard.

So question 1, which SQL do I need in the intermediate upgrade step, and 2, where do I get my product keys for Dynamics 2015 and 2018 R2 as CustomerSource is all screwed up at the moment.  I keep going in circles there, and bad or missing links on the site.

Hopefully someone has done an OLD to new conversion and can offer some suggestions.  Thanks.

    You need to do more hops then you have planned. You would need to go to GP 2013 first from GP 10 and then to GP 2015 or GP 2016 and then to GP 2018 R2. You can use SQL 2014 for GP 2013 and higher GP versions. We have images set up in our data center for all the various upgrades and do plenty of these. You only need reg keys for GP 2018 R2. You will need to order the license transition from GP 10. Currently W 2019 Server is not on the recommended server list. Hopefully you have a reseller who help with this or you can contact Sales Operations to place the license transition order.

    Hi Jim

    First lets address GP versions.  In my notes, I have that you need to be on at least GP 2010 (11.00.2248) to upgrade to GP 2015 R2 with at least Y/E Dec/16  (14.00.0898). Then you can go to GP 2018 R2 latest version.

    As far as SQL server goes, you can use either SQL 2012 or SQL 2014  for the upgrade section to GP 2015.

    Your registration keys can be found on customer source, if you are having issues, contact your VAR and ask them to help.

    I hope you are first doing a test upgrade to ensure a smooth production upgrade.
