AX 2009 - Custom Generated Report

ReportReport
Posted on by

We already have one Custom generated PurchPurchaseOrder report that we are using for all of the legal entities - I have a requirement where I need to make some design changes for one specific company. I know I can always go into each method(under design) and check which company it is called from and based off that generate the design.
But I was wondering If I can create one more Report - just for one particular entity -and If yes where do I specify that this *new* custom report should be generated when called from *this* specific company? In  a class or in the report method itself?

Regards,
Khosla

Yes, you surely can copy and modify the existing design or the whole report. But it may be wrong thing for maintenance - for example, you'll likely still have lot's of common logic and all changes would have to be done twice. Have more designs often makes sense. Rather than making additional reports, it's often better to deal with different behaviour by a polymorphic class, for example. But it's up to you to weigh it up.

If you create a new report, you'll obviously have to change the place where you call the original one and to conditional call your new report. A design can be selected in the report itself before rendering.

    Hi Martin,

    Thanks for replying.

A quick question though - How do I have the different design rendered from a single report itself. I mean how and where do I specify which design to pick?

I see there is a ChangeDesign() method already there at the Report level - should I use that? Or maybe put the switch statement in the init()?

Can you tell me how did you manage to create a report that is rendered from two different designs depending on other fields values? I can do it using a controller in ax 2012, but not in 2009, and the link is not working.

    Thanks!

Hi Khosla, the link you posted to msdn.microsoft.com/.../aa611590(v=ax.10).aspx doesn't seem to work.  How did you accomplish printing report designs specific to customers?  A code snippet would be helpful.  I'm trying to print customer-specific sales Invoices.  Thank you!
