GP 2010 Stock Count Entry using Scribe GP adapter?

Greetings,

I'm trying to find out if the IV Transaction Header and IV Transaction Line objects in the Scribe GP adapter V4.3.1 for Scribe V7.6.1 can be used to integrate stock count data into GP 2010. I have submitted a question about this to Scribe support as well. However, I don't know if they will answer my request because Scrive version 7.6.1 is no longer supported. Any assistance from our GP community would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Larry

Yes, the IV Transaction is the transaction used by the Stock Count process to effect adjustments to on hand quantities.

    Frank,

Thank you for the quick response.

We will proceed with using Scribe and the GP adapter to integrate the stock count data into GP.

Upon further investigation I found that the Scribe GP adapter IV Transaction Line object is based on table IV10001. The stock count line table is IV10301 not IV10001. Therefore I don't believe that the IV Transaction Line object can be successfully used to integrate stock count transactions into GP.

My apologies Larry, I assumed you wanted to integrate the actual Stock Count adjustments, not the counts themselves.

    Frank,

No problem. I should have been a little clearer in describing the issue. Upon further discovery I suspected that you were probably thinking that I was asking about integrating the stock count variance transaction. Your help is much appreciated.

    Larry,

I used to do the annual inventory check in a larger manufacturing plant (200'000 sqf) for over 15'000 items in GP... I was using GP to generate the Stock Count Schedule to create the entries in the tables, started the stock-count and then used an external Access Application to actually spread the counting job across several teams equipped with handheld scanners. Once a round was completed, the quantities were downloaded off the scanner to the Access database. When all the counting was completed at the end of the day, the data was consolidated and reports printed to do some spot-checks. When everyone was pretty confident the data was 99% accurate (there are always some miscounts), I uploaded the quantities from the Access tables to the SQL server into the Stock Count Schedule tables and set the flag to mark the items as counted.

Then I stopped the schedule in GP and posted the Quantity adjustments to the system. This was the most efficient way to do it... Before that, there were several users assigned to type in manually the quantity adjustments into the batch and it was very error prone.

If you have a very large amount of Items to count, I suggest that you look into some automated process to do it :-). I don't think that eConnect has anything that support the Stock Count Schedule.

    Good luck.

I designed a Scribe Stock Integration to GP using SmartList Builder to provide the source file after quantities were frozen.  I then wrote the quantities directly to the stock count line table.

    Donnette,

Thank you for sharing the idea for the solution that you have used. I've not used Smartlist builder. Based on your post I assume that Smartlist builder can output to a data file versus a report. We do have Smartlist builder. I have not used it.

We have a custom application that was used in the past, it will require some enhancements this year because this is the first time that we are going to perform year end valuation of our inventory in GP. We have about 15000 items in multiple locations. The custom application will be used to capture the raw data via keypunch. We will have as many as three tags (counts) per item. The custom application will sum the amounts and write transaction records with the summarized counts in the correct UOM to a SQL DB table. We will then update the countedqty, varified and varianceqty columns for each item in the count schedule in IV10301 with the data from the summarized count table. I'm going to look into the Smartlist Builder idea as it may be easier than enhancing our custom application.

    Be'at,

Thank you for sharing your experience on this topic. I also thought that it would be great if we could use hand held scanners to capture the item counts. Unfortunately we do not have scanners so we will need to hand key the data. Purchasing scanners for other purposes are supposed to be in the plan (someday). Please see my response to Donnette included below. It describes what we plan to do this year.Maybe a future release of eConnect will include pbjects to more easily create a stock count integrationinto GP.

    Hi Larry,

Yes I've seen your previous reply... I agree that it would be fantastic if eConnect would offer a deeper  integration with the Inventory management...

We used to print the bar-codes on the count sheets (with 3 coupons to detach) and labels which would contain a bar-code for the rack location ID (organized by alley and shelf level). All the user had to do was pointing the laser to scan the location, scan the Item code on the sheet, punch in the counted quantity, next...

Once a round was completed, the scanner was offloaded into the Access DB.

If you intend to buy so hardware, look to get some running on Windows CE 5 or 6. Go out and buy yourself the software package for RAD on hand-held devices, like CaptureSoft express or the like. I used a different one, but I can't remember the name right now.
