Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

I installed SQl server 2008 on a server 2008 sp2 system but after the installation it gave this error

'An error has occured while trying to access the the license validation file please re-install SQl server to correct this file'

I had re-installed several time but it didnt solve the problem. I also installed SQl server 2008 sp2 it stilll did not fix the problem.

I need your help to fix this issue.

Thanks

    Sulaimon,

When you re-installed SQL Server, did Windows ask you to reboot?

When you started the GP install, did you get any of the components installed (i.e. shared componenets 11, .net framework, etc.) or did you get the errors right fromt the start?

While I have know idea what the specific code you referenced means, I am wondering if you need to reboot your server so that the changes you have made take affect.

    Regards,

    Aaron

    Sulaimon,

You might be able to get away with just removing the SP.  Go to Programs and Features, and then click on "View installed Updates" or something similar to view the updates for each component that is installed.  Search for SQL Server and see if you can remove the service pack from there.

If not, then yes, you should un-install and then re-install with SP1.

    Thanks

That means i will have to un-install SQl server 2008 and install again so i can install 2008 sp1 first before sp2.

    Thanks and God bless

Re: SQL server 2008 installation error

    Sulaimon,

Are you running the installation with administrative rights? I am not sure if the SQL Server 2008 service packs are cumulative so you might try the following:

    1. Make sure you are installing the SP with admin rights

    2. Install Service Pack 1 for SQL server 2008 first

If this corrects your issue, then install SP2.

    Let us know your outcome.

    Regards,

    Aaron
