We are first-time GP users. We have 5 deparments for operating expenses. Does GP require us to set up each expense account 5 times, once for each department? I have created a segment for department ID, and it is also imbedded within the account format.

    I would alternatively look into the Analytical Accounting module which was designed to maintain cases like yours, if you have many expense accounts and many departments, your task will not be easy comparing to the flexibility of the AA module that adds dimensions to your accounts.

    Technically, yes.  Each account string in GP is a separate record.  However, using the Mass Modify under Financial>>Cards>>Mass Modify, you can copy a range of accounts, substituting new values for one of more account segments, making it very easy to setup a new department's accounts.
