CRM Report Authoring Extension 2016 cannot be installed on Windows 8.1

Hello,

I have tried installing CRM Report Authoring Extension 2016  on my laptop to create Fetch-XML reports based on records in CRM but, the tool cannot be installed.

First it tells me Live ID Sign-in assistant is not installed, then after it automatically installs it, it gives another error,

Business Intelligence Development Studio is not installed for Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services

I'm sure I've installed VS2017 with SSDT because I have created sql-based report with it but cannot see Microsoft Dynamics CRM Fetch as datasource!

I would appreciate any clue.

Thanks a lot

    Hi,

If your organization uses Microsoft Office 365, the computer on which the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Report Authoring Extension is installed must have the Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant installed on it. If Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant is already installed, check the registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSOIdentityCRL and make sure that the TargetDir registry key in MSOIdentityCRL contains msoidcli.dll.

Have a look at this article:

Just to add, here are the versions supported for Dynamics 365 CRM custom report authoring.

Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services is required for reporting features in Microsoft Dynamics 365.

You can use the following Microsoft SQL Server editions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 reporting; you’ll need to install them on a Windows Server 2012 (x64 RTM or R2) 64-bit-based computer, running and available for Microsoft Dynamics 365:

*Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Enterprise with Cumulative Update 2 (CU2)

*Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Standard with Cumulative Update 2 (CU2)

*Microsoft SQL Server 2016, Developer, with Cumulative Update 2 (CU2) (for non-production use only)

    SQL Server 2014 Enterprise, 64-bit

SQL Server 2014 Business Intelligence, 64-bit

    SQL Server 2014 Standard, 64-bit

SQL Server 2014 Developer, 64-bit (for non-production use only)

    Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Enterprise, 64-bit SP1

Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Business Intelligence, 64-bit SP1

    Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Standard, 64-bit SP1

Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Developer, 64-bit SP1 (for non-production use only)

    Hi Narbeh,

thanks for clarifying. The second response is applicable to on-premise.

Have a look at the following tech article at about versions supported:

    technet.microsoft.com/.../dn531151.aspx

Basically, you need to use SQL Server Data Tools.

    Hi Mohamed,

I have downloaded and installed SSDT for VS2012 and 2015 . My VS is 2017 and I have installed SSDT from the setup as well.

The issue is I still cannot install Report authoring extension as it shows the same error and I cannot select Microsoft Dynamics CRM Fetch as a type for a datasource.

So the error you are getting says: "Business Intelligence Development Studio is not installed"?

If that's the case, have you tried to install Business Intelligence Development Studio and then try to install report authoring extension?

    Hi

VS 2017 is not mentioned in the list of VS versions.

Refer the Report Authoring Extension requirements section in the download page for the same.

    Dear Mohamed and Gopalan,

Yes I have installed BI studio but I guess Gopalan is right. maybe I cannot use report authoring extension with VS2017. I'll try VS2015 and let you know.

Thanks for fast comments and replies!

    Hi Again,

I have installed VS 2013, SQL Data tools for VS2013. but still when I try to install CRM Report Authoring Extension for it, I get an error at the end saying:

Business Intelligence Development Studio is not installed for Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services

I have downloaded SSDTBI_x86_ENU and SSDT_14.0.61704.140_EN but didn't solve my issue.

    Dear All,

I have installed "Microsoft Dynamics 365 Report Authoring Extension" instead of "Microsoft Dynamics 2016 Report Authoring Extension" and it's fixed now. Now I wonder If I can use it to create FetchXML from on-premise CRM server
