I am doing a test installation of Service Pack 3 for Solomon SL Feature Pack 1 on Server 2003 x86 with SQL Server 2005 SP3. When I run the SP3 installer I get 'The Setup is unable to locate any Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1 components to update

I am doing a test installation of Service Pack 3 for Solomon SL Feature Pack 1 on Server 2003 x86 with SQL Server 2005 SP3.  When I run the SP3 installer I get 'The Setup is unable to locate any Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Feature Pack 1 components to update.  Setup will abort.'  Obviously, I have just installed SL FP1, but could not actually set up the databases because when I run Database Maintenance I get the error 'SQL Server 2005 SP1 is required for this screen and Microsoft Dynamics SL' (as stated, I am running SQL Server 2005 SP3).  Any help is appreciated, as I have spent a week trying to troubleshoot this. I am currently just going to recommend my company switch to another software provider, one that doesn't charge for support on issues that are the fault of the developer in the first place.

Fixed the server name in the Domain table, Company looks ok.  I've tried running the DB upgrade scripts via Database Maintenance using Dynamics RTM and FP1/SP3 and both throw various errors, though the errors aren't the same between the versions.  RTM logs a lot of syntax errors to DBBuild.log, whereas SP3 cannot find various stored procedures.  It appears a lot of scripts may be missing from Application\DB\Scripts in SP3?  Weird.  I'll continue to mess with it.

    Andy,

Did you check the Domain table in the system database?  Verify that all fields are accurate.  You might also check the Company table.

Well I got Database Maintenance connecting to the server at least.  However, my system database shows up but none of my application databases do.  They are attached and running but they are Solomon 5.5 databases.  I ran the 'Synchoronize All Ownership and Security' button but it throws an error:

    Method not found: 'Void soldb.iBuildAppDB.CreateConfigProcs(Boolean)'.

    Got any advice on debugging?  I checked and .NET 2.0 SP2 / 3.0 SP2 / 3.5 SP1 are all installed.

Gah!  My SQL Server 2005 documentation may be wrong, I just checked the version number via query and got 9.00.1399.06 which is the RTM version number!  Updating now...

As an aside, this is a test machine on a subnet and is NOT getting automatic updates.

Thanks Carolyn.  The setup error was my fault, I'd accidentally installed RTM.  So far, I've successfully installed FP1 and then the hotfix for FP1, and still get the 'SQL Server 2005 SP1' error.  I also tried installing FP1, then SP3, then the hotfix for FP1, and still get the same error.  Is there any way to verify whether or not the hotfix is installing correctly?

    Andy,

The Service Pack 3 installation process is not detecting the SL 7.0 FP1 installation. InstallShield checks the registry to determine if SL 7.0 FP1 is installed and it sounds like possible corruption in the registry. If you check Add or Remove Programs- does the Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 FP1 Client appear? If so are you able to uninstall the SL 7.0client? Go ahead and uninstall the SL client- start and reinstall the SL 7.0 FP1 client. If the client cannot be uninstalled, here are the steps to manally remove the client.

    1. Open Start\Run enter Regedit

    2. Expand HKey_Local_Machine|Software..delete any folder called Solomon, Solomon Software Inc or Microsoft Business Solutions

    3. Expand HKey_Local_Machine|Software|Microsoft... delete the folder: Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Client

    4. Close the registry editor.

    6. Open Windows Explorer

    7. Expand the C:\Windows\System32 and delete the SWIMAPI.dll

    8. Close Windows Explorer and restart the workstation

11 Log back in as the Domain Admin if Active Directory is in use on the network or the Admin on the box.

    12. Then re-install SL 7.0 FP1

    13. Then try installing SP3.

For your error 'SQL Server 2005 SP1 is required for this screen and Microsoft Dynamics SL', this is a known bug and a hotfix is available.

KB 970678 is the hot fix document for  7.0SP1, 7.0SP2 and 7.0FP1. When you click the "View and request hotfix downloads" link - it will give you the option to download the hot fix for the version that you need.
