Reversal of POSTED receiving transaction posted to a year that should have been closed

We have a transaction that was accidentally received and the receiving entry was posted back to 2012. This has thrown our inventory off. I have tried to complete a reversing entry via Returns Transaction Entry. The Returns Transaction Entry will not show any available receipt numbers. I believe this is because the inventory was consumed. Is there another way to reverse an entry or correct the date on a receiving entry posting date?
