A previous version of GP has been detected after PSTL install

PSTL was installed on the server and when they try to log in as SA, it takes them into Utilities, which checks the version and comes back with  A previous version of Microsoft  Dynamics GP has been detected. To proceed, you need to upgrade your Microsoft Dynamics GP system database. Other users are currently using Microsoft Dynamics GP.  You cannot update tables while anyone is using Microsoft Dynamics GP.

We found a reference to compnay -1 (Fabrikam) in the DU000020 table that was Major Version 9 (they are currently on 11) but the TWO/Fabrikam database had not been brought over during the upgrade and there was no record of it in the Company Master Table so the record was removed from the DU000020 table.

There are no errant logins when Activity, SY00800, SY00801, Dex_Lock and Dex_Session are checked. Where else would the system be seeing the previous version referenced?

As a note, before they called us to assist, they had installed PSTL directly from the install disk but they are on GP 11.00.1752 so they should have installed from the download. I had them uninstall and install the correct version. Would that have caused an issue? PSTL installed from the download onto a client workstation and they did not get any errors. Weverified the version on both machines and made sure the Dynamics.set file was changed on the server to match the successful client but that did not help either.

Thanks!

In the Dynamics db, look for a Versions table,  make sure your current apps are at the correct value.  All apps must be at the same level to avoid getting the message.

    Hi NOLA,

If you're not too much concerned about the Fabrikam company, then I would use the GP utilities to just delete the company and re-install it from scratch... this is going to be much faster then trying to 'upgrade' the company. As you're not using any 3rd party module, I wouldn't wory too much.

How do you install your GP clients ? do you use the tools from the setup to create a GP 'package' ? this way you can customize all the information and run zero-intervention installation for all your clients (and the same package is most of the time good for the server too).

I usually deploy a standard package for every workstation, and then add afterwards 3rd party modules that are specific to some users (like cheque printing or payroll).

What's your PSTL version ?  I have currently 11.0.13 installed on my server for GP 2010 R2...

No 3rd parties. I was just concerned about the SQL goodies that don't get loaded on a client install but I guess the idea is to copy files and not the whole folder.

    Thanks!

The 'client' on the server is no different than the client on an actual client.

You need to be careful of 'pathing', but if all of the workstations (and the server) have the same modules loaded, you shouldn't have any problems.

Do you have any 3rd party products that are server centric?

Unfortunately, it is the server that is throwing the error and not a client machine.

The first thing I would do is copy the workstation files from the 'working' client to the client that is throwing the 'previous version' error.
