Making Azure MS SQL data available in Dynamics.

I am new to Dynamics.   Is it possible to connect to a Azure SQL server and expose the data into Dynamics as an entity?   I would rather not synchronize the data if possible.   Do you think this is possible? Or what is the best way to solve this issue?

I will have data that is used Azure SQL server I would like to use in Dynamics.

    Hi Jeremy,

you need to synchronize the data.

There are tools like Scribe or KingswaySoft CRM Toolkit that can help you, otherwise a custom integration

You can synchronize the data using KingswaySoft CRM Toolkit.

    Check this link below,

To get your data available in Dynamics CRM, all you need is to make synchronization between two sources.

For this task take a look at Skyvia. It`s a completely no-coding web-service, used both by professionals and citizen-developers

Here is a link to it: https://skyvia.com/

What version of Dynamics are you on?

If you are on version 9.0, you might be able to use Virtual entities with the Azure Sql Odata provider.

I have not tested this and MS provides samples for other OData providers, but per documentation Azure Sql does have an OData provider, which in that case you could expose it to Virtual entities.

If you can't get that working, you can probably create an API to expose your SQL data and use the Virtual Entities in Dynamics 365.

Take a look at the following articles as a starting point:

    docs.microsoft.com/.../create-edit-virtual-entities

    azure.microsoft.com/.../introduction-to-open-data-protocol-odata-and-sql-azure

    Hope this helps.

I tested a product named API Server by CData with v9 virtual entities and Azure SQL and it works. It didn't work when I first tried it but the company made the changes necessary to interpret requests from D365 and return OData v4 in the proper format. In particular, they are handling GUIDs in the way that D365 needs them to.

    Hi

I'm trying to do the same, but I can't get it to work.

I'm getting the request on the API server and it returns data. (Log indicates success) but Dynamics throws an error.

Any idea what I'm missing ?
