Upload pictures to custom forms

Hi guys,

I'm a regular reader of the forum. Really appreciate the tips and tricks - I have learned a lot from it.

I'm currently looking into ways on how to share information regarding sales activities across the organization. The idea is to enter information such as cost to run, date, name and description of the event in Dynamics under a custom form called e.g. "Activities", which is linked to an account like an opportunity would be. Besides the information, it would be nice to be able to upload pictures of the activities made.

I know this is possible through a simple note attachment, however, as far as I have found this method is not sufficient, because the idea behind this is to link the information entered in Dynamics directly to Power BI. In PBI a report would be created containing all activities and the related information including pictures.

Thus, does any of you know a way to upload pictures into Dynamics, which can be transferred to Power BI through the API, in the same way that information is, or if this is not possible, do you have any ideas for a workaround - another app or the likes.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi kristianjdp,

I would recommend you use SharePoint Online with model-driven apps in Dynamics 365.

With server-based SharePoint integration enabled, we can upload relevant files into SharePoint, including image types, within the 'File' tab of the form.

Each record will have a separate folder in SharePoint to store files related to this record.

Finally, you can transfer the pictures in Sharepoint to Power BI.

    Here are some reference documents:

    Hello,

Please have a look at this blog.

    debajmecrm.com/.../

Microsoft introduced new data type which is File, that can be used to upload file on OOb & custom entity. You can have only one File data type field on entity.

Let me know if this helps!

    Hi Lu Hao,

Thanks for the answer, this has been really helpful. However, I'm running into an issue once I load this into Power BI. I'm able to fetch the SharePoint document location through Power BI, but when I try to get the absolute URL it is only obtainable through a function (see picture below). The dream scenario is that I'm able to get the URL itself directly into a table.

    Hi kristianjdp,

I would recommend you post this question in both Power BI community and SharePoint community, and experts in these areas will help you.
