Read-only sum field broken

I have a read-only field that is supposed to calculate the total from a field on a set of related entities. But I can't figure out how the field performs the operation! It's not a calculated field. Field type = Simple. There's no JavaScript (that I can find) or Business Rules on the field. What am I missing??

No workflows. I'll have to have my superior check for plugins... that is beyond my scope ;)

Hi,

do you have any plugins which would perform the calculations?

Or, maybe, a workflow?
