How to change Project methodology in Lifecycle Services

Hello Everyone,

Please I need help on how to change methodology selected  for a project in Lifecycle services.

My organisation is working on proof of concept of upgrading from AX 2012 RTM to D365FO. As for an initial step ,  I've been asked to create  Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Project using the LCS. The project has been created and I've chosen Dynamics Success Journey as the project methodology. But I have no clue as to how to apply this methodology on this project and wanted to change to Agile Sure Step . I've not seen anywhere how i can make this change. This is my first experience in using the LCS to manage AX upgrade project.

    I think you need to create a new project and select the correct methodology when you do that.

    And actually for AX2012 - D365FO upgrade you need to create a project for product D365FO instead of AX2012. Otherwise you don't have access to the code upgrade tool.

    Hi Nikolaos,

    Thank you for your response., it has been very helpful. I've deleted the project and created another one which was linked with Sure Step methodology.

    As you rightly mentioned,  I will need project D365FO for upgrade to D365FO.  However, because my coy currently uses AX 2012 RTM, and there is no direct upgrade to D365FO with the RTM version, we would have to first upgrade to AX2012 R3 and then from R3 to D365FO. So, invariably I will have to create two projects .

    I've gone through your blog on the LCS modes . The write up has been incredibly useful to me as the situation explained depict my current experience when trying to use the LCS and I had no clue as to why I was having two same accounts under customer Organisation and when I switch I see different organisation users. Eventhough your write up has explained the two modes which I quite understand now, I still can't create D365FO in any of the accounts. One account has only Nav product selection  while the second account was displayed in the LCS after I had a screen sharing session with Microsoft agent. It was on this second account I was able to create AX 2012 R3 Project. Interestingly when I switch between the accounts under my login details both show my organisation email and O365 account. So I don't really know which one should ordinarily allow the creation D365FO Project in the LCS and how i can get the D365FO project created in my current circumstance.

    I've admin right in the both modes but I am not an administrator  in Office 365.

    I read about tenant  status which I know I'm not on the AX or offfice365 but do I need to be tenant to be able to subscribe to the D365FOpreview.

    This is my first experience using the LCS on upgrade project and every tips possible will really be appreciated

    What my organisation is currently doing is proof of concept ( test) of the upgrade to D365FO. Is only when satisfied with this we can then commence the real upgrade implementation

    Please I need your further help.

    In order to create D365FO projects in LCS you need to use such O365 account that is in an O365 tenant where D365FO licenses (real or trial) exist.

    So you might need to activate D365FO partner / customer trial before you can proceed. You can find instructions for that in the MS documentation that my blog post (Trial options for D365FO) refers to.

    Hi Nikolaos,

    I've reviewed the MS Documentation on the Trial options for D365FO and currently in the process of finding the one person tenant administrator in my coy who could subscribe to the customer trial version for D365FObefore I can use.

    But I have a question as to whether the trial version with give access to D365FO on premises or cloud. My organisation wants on premise and already instructed our data centre to create VMs for the R3 and D365FO installation . I am not sure if the LCS will be cloud or on premises and whether when the two projects are created in LCS, they can be linked to the VMs already installed for the projects.

    Let me quickly mention that an external AX Developer has been brought in to do proof of concept for upgrade of ax 2012 to D365FO. He has started work on the VMs but I've been asked to create the two projects for him in the Lcs so that the analyser tools and others in the LCS could be used by him.

    I'm really sorry for bothering you with this details but I believe it will give you better understand of what I'm trying to do.

    The trial version will not give you access to the on-premises version. The trial lets you deploy onebox machines in your Azure subscription, or download them locally (VHD). So you can run the VHD in your premises but it's not the same thing as on-premises D365FO.

    Also you can't link any VMs to LCS. Only the machines that you deploy from LCS (to your Azure subscription) are linked to LCS.

    I've been able to create project for AX 2012 R3 and the D365FO. Things seem looking  good on the projects currently. It has been a good learning process.
