What is the speed of the NIC in the server? If it is only 100MB there is your problem. Or possibly your router is only 100MB or the NICs in the workstations are only set to 100MB. Turn Auto-Negotiate off and forcce them all to go at 1GB. Sounds like you have a speed problem between the server and the workstations.
I've had to do a little digging as I just took over the IT position.
Issue: Spooling of custom sales order reports is extremely slow. Once the document is spooled it prints regularly.
Details: This issue is repeatable regardless of workstation printed from (XP or W7, 32 or 64 bit). The issue is repeatable regardless of printer used. NIC speeds are mixed from 100Mb to 1Gb. The reports.dic is a shared one located on the database server (this is a little different than the previous setup I worked with where the reports.dic was a shared on on the file server).
Workaround: If the users RDP into the server and print the reports from there the printing is fast, but there are 2 users who do this and it is not really a workaround I would like to see used.
I have downloaded the latest service pack (released June 8, 2011), but I have not installed it yet as I am waiting for confirmation from our VAR that any customizations to the system that they have made would be unaffected by the SP.
Thank you for any assistance provided.
Are you saying you can print the same invoice on your server and it prints normally, but if you print it from any of your workstations it prints slowly? Do you use a shared reports dictionary? Is your DYNAMICS.DIC located locally? Are your workstations WXP or W7 ( 32 or 64 bit)? How fast are your NICS?
Has anyone been able to solve this issue? I'm having the exact same one, and I would really like to solve it.
