Moving Remote Nav 2013 Dual Server Setup To New Single Remote Server Setup

Posted on by

Greetings all,

Our Current deployment:

  • Server 1 = Windows Server 2012 VPS (Dynamics Nav 2013)
  • Server 2 = Windows Server 2012 VPS (MSSQL)

We are wanting to migrate our deployment as above to a new single dedicated server setup.

My questions are:

  1. Is a single server setup any less beneficial to a separate (Nav / DB) server setup?
  2. Is there any best practices as we're wanting to keep costs down and do the transfer ourselves (in house IT) rather than pay for a third party company to do it.

Many thanks

Existing client connections can be transferred to a different Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server instance without requiring any changes to the client settings. You may, for instance, create a new instance of Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server that is a replica of the current setup. The client connections do not need to be modified because the client configuration settings are the same when the configuration is reused on the server side. I am using a game server hosting on another platform and the settings are very similar, it's not that hard to change them.

Please find attached a sizing guide for your version of Dynamics NAV.

    Hope this is helpful.
