Microsoft Dynamics CRM (Archived)

Leads created in CRM using a third party plugin (Zapier) does not trigger a workflow designed to execute on lead creation.

Posted on by 75

Zapier is being used to automatically create leads from Facebook Campaign and then automatically push them to Dynamics 365. A workflow has been created that executes when a new lead is created. However it doesn't execute when Zapier creates a new lead in the CRM. The workflow only executes when i manually create a new lead in the CRM.

Any Ideas what could be wrong here?

I have a slightly related question for anyone who has worked with Zapier and Dynamics. I have a Zap set up to create a lead in Dynamics from a FB lead ad. It tests out ok and creates the lead, but it doesn't block the same email address from creating a new lead per the duplicate detection rules. I imagine this is something with Zapier's API. Any thoughts on how a lead can be deduplicated upon creation when coming from a Zap?

    Hi Dhiren,

Third-party CTI solutions can link your CRM and phone, even if they're from different companies. Our company, Tenfold, offers such service, and also has a click to dial feature similar to what you are asking here. Here are the integrations available for MS Dynamics CRM: www.tenfold.com/integrations/dynamics/

    Hi Dhiren

That sounds pretty odd then. There shouldn't be any difference when creating something through the API and through the GUI when it comes to workflow triggering.

What kind of user is set up in the connection from Zapier? Do you have a regular user account for the connection string or do you have a user set up using the recently released server-to-server (S2S) authentication?

    Hello Daniel,

Thanks for looking into this. The scope is already set to Organization. Also, the strange fact is that when any users creates a Lead the workflow is triggered as expected. The problem occurs only when Leads that are created and pushed to CRM by Zapier.

Check the scope of the workflow process. It's probably set to "User" which means it will only automatically trigger for the person who owns the workflow. You want it set to "Organization" for it to trigger whenever any user creates a lead.
