Savings reports/exports from Dynamics running in RemoteApp

We are running Dynamics AX 2012 R2. Our users access the Dynamics client through RemoteApp work resources. We are wondering what the most common or supported methods are for saving reports/attachments/Excel exports from Dynamics, in a way that they are accessible on the user's local machine.

For example, we do not have the Excel application installed on our Remote Desktop/RemoteApp server. If our users need to export to Excel from Dynamics, they must export the document locally, so that that document can be opened via their local Excel client. Therefore, saving directly to our Remote Desktop server is not a good option for us.

Does anyone have any suggestions for handling this scenario? We need a good way for all documents originating from Dynamics to be saved and opened locally. We know about the AX/Excel integration, however, we also need to be able to save reports, attachments, etc, so the Excel integration does not seem to cover all scenarios.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

    Hello Austin,

Just allow the users to redirect their local drives through RDS settings. That way they can see their mapped drives and local C: drive while on the session through RDS. If your users have a personal drive on the network. have them save the files there. This would be the easiest path to get to through the drive redirection. If you are running Server 2008 R2, you can go to RemoteApp Manager, click Change on RD Session Host Server Settings, Click Common RDP Settings, In Devices and resources click Disk drives.

Thanks Boris, is this a GPO setting in Windows 2012?

There is a GPO setting as well that can enable or disable the ability to redirect drives. See below how to get to both settings.

    Server 2012\R2:

RDS > Session Collection > Properties > Tasks - Edit Properties > Client Settings > ensure "Drives" IS checked

    GPO setting:

    gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Device and Resource Redirection\ Disable Do not allow drive redirection

Thanks, Boris, we were able to successfully get drive redirection setup in our Remote Desktop environment.
