Invalid mixing of account types - new GL chart of accounts

We are required to change our General Ledger account numbering to conform with our parent company.

Upon converting our numbering to the new numbering sequence, we found the following error message: “Invalid mixing of account types”.

We believe that this occurred because Assets in our previous GL numbering began with 0, 1 or 2 and Liabilities began with a 3 or 4. Our new GL numbering would have Asset starting with a 1 and Liabilities starting with a 2 or 3. I believe that the new liability numbers beginning with a 2 conflict with the old assets listed with a 2 even though we indicate that the type of account in the GL maintenance for the new number with a 2 is a liability type.

Please note that none of the new numbers match any of our prior GL numbers.

Is there a solution for us to convert to these ne GL account numbers while maintaining the old account numbers for historical purposes?
