Inline Editable Lookup field on Portal

When an lookup is created in Dynamics 365 Portal, the lookup field does not have editable and tab out feature (like CRM lookup). Is there a way we can acheive this OOB or please advise the best way to customize this?

OOB CRM Lookup - behaves like a free text, you can enter the first name and then on tab out it displays a list of records (with an exclamation mark) or populates the record for single match. We want similar functionality in Portal lookup too
